Øyfjellet Wind Park began as a local initiative. All the energy the wind park produces for the next 15 years will go to the cornerstone industry, Alcoa. In this way, the wind park helps safeguard local jobs and create new opportunities in meeting the challenges of climate change. This is something we're very proud of.
As a forward-looking business focused on the environment, it is important for us to use local services and business partners in the Municipality of Vefsn and more broadly in Nordland – strengthening business development in the municipality and the region.
The local community shall experience the wind park as a positive force, in addition to its creating crucial renewable energy for industry.
As part of the 2021 agreement on the construction and operation of Øyfjellet Wind Park, Øyfjellet Wind makes significant financial contributions to the Municipality of Vefsn, intended to benefit residents.
As part of the agreement, an annual fund of NOK 350,000 has been established. Organisations, clubs and associations can apply to the fund for grants toward new measures for outdoor recreation and tourism in the planning area.
The fund is fully managed and administered by the Municipality of Vefsn, which also decides which projects are in line with the fund's purpose.
